This is an exceptionally gorgeous and old French piece made sometime around the mid 19th century. Please see pictures to see what I’m referring to. I believe this was produced by Old Paris, perhaps Jacob Petit, or another French manufactory of the day meant to compete with the aforementioned. It features an exotic sultana sitting on a turquoise-colored pillow as she holds up a very large plume. It was probably part of a pair when first created. The piece is heavily glazed and features prominent gold gilding throughout, with superb detailing and painting, and a myriad of patterns including feathers, shells, leaves, scrolls and swirls. The sultana has a strikingly lovely face with such clear blue eyes and beautifully shaped mouth. Aside from the obvious and expected wear to the gold gilding, the only other major flaw I see is a repair to the largest, center feather. Please examine the close up picture to assess this for yourself. There are also a few minor chips to the edges of a couple of the feathers on the right side. This piece measures 12.5 inches high (31.75 cm), and 6.25 inches wide at the widest point (16 cm). For its size, it is quite heavy. It is unmarked, but has what looks like an incised M to the base.
