One of the most stunning art deco sculptural pieces I’ve seen, this 30s/40s Clelia Le Bertetti bust has a beautiful matte finish. Le Bertetti also produced this piece in later years, in a high gloss finish. The bust is quintessentially art deco and the expression reminiscent of the Lenci figures of the time. She is flawless – no chips or cracks or repairs. 9.5″ tall by 8″ wide she takes up little room but makes a big art deco design statement. She weighs 2 lbs. I’ve not attempted to clean her – she looks great as is – but will leave the decision to clean her up to the new owner as there are a few spots in her hair and on the breast that appear to need a light cleaning. As is she displays beautifully. The bottom mark appears to have rubbed off in part prior to its original glazing. There is also an incised signature/mark which I assume to be a’C’ for Clelia. Clelia Bertetti in 1932, after leaving her job at the “Lenci” ceramic factory, which lasted about 5 years, opens and artistic ceramic laboratory called “Le Bertetti “, assisted by Piero Ducato. She was the most celebrated of the ceramicists at Lenci. My items are vintage or antique. They may well show signs of age and wear. I do my best to photograph and mention flaws.
