Masterfully sculpted 5.5 lb. Black marble, prehistoric Paleo-American rock art metate multi-tool, with an accompanying white banded marble mano. Incredibly sculpted, ground, and super smoothed with several enigmatically cryptic images adorning the metate. Obvious wear patterns, and hand/finger placement contours imply its use as a hammer, smashing, or grinding tool. In addition, the opposite surface suggests a metate function. It is an amazing example of ancient craftsmanship and artistry; certainly a gift from the antediluvian inhabitants of North America. Found “as is” in East Multnomah County, Oregon near the Columbia River. Thank you for viewing this incredible artifact from the amazing toolmakers in the distant past.
