This listing is for the rare and finely sculpted ceramic or glazed terracotta figure by the noted Hungarian born artist Maria Rahmer, circa 1930. This piece features a seated woman who is adorned with flower petals. It is signed in 2 places; on one foot and on the base. It is gently used with no discernible chips, cracks, breaks or repairs and measures about 6.5″ high x 4.5″ diameter. A remarkable example of Rahmer’s work. She continued her studies in Germany and France. She opened a workshop in Budapest in 1931. Her works were exhibited in the United States and in many countries in western Europe. In the Brussels International Exhibition in 1935, she was awarded the Gold Medallion Honorary Diploma. She opened a gallery in Paris in 1939. She emigrated to France around 1949. After WWII Rahmer migrated to France, and later to Canada. As part of the Canadian sculptor group she participated in numerous European and American exhibitions. In 1981 one of her works won the “Best Sculpture of the year” award in Ontario. A true pioneer in her field, Rahmer died in Canada in 1998. View photos for any condition issues.
