In a scene from Tolkien’s The Hobbit, trolls William, Bert and Tom, having captured Bilbo’s 13 dwarf companions in sacks, are bickering about the best way to make a meal of them as Bilbo hides close by. Goaded and distracted by clever ventriloquism on Gandalf’s part, the hapless trolls are turned to stone by the first light of dawn. In pewter on a bonded porcelain base.
